Alyssa Brown

Professional Highlights
Alyssa is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology at BYU. Her Master’s thesis focuses on relationship satisfaction; namely, how a person’s background might shape their satisfaction across romantic, familial, and platonic relationships. Before joining Alliance, she spent two years doing psychotherapy and psychological assessments at BYU’s community health center. She also worked at the Utah State Hospital with those struggling with suicidality, interpersonal difficulties, impulsivity, and inattention.
Specialties
Alyssa is trained in several therapeutic approaches, all aimed at helping people discover what “a life worth living” means to them. Principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) inform much of the work she does.
She is devoted to assisting people navigate personal tragedies – big or small; in the past, present, or future – and build their behavioral repertoire to respond to setbacks dynamically, informed by what they care about most.
She is committed to creating a safe, empathetic space to safely express, explore, and exist in emotions. She tends to work with those navigating depression, anxiety, grief, PTSD, and attentional and interpersonal difficulties due to other disorders (e.g., ADHD). She has worked with those from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ individuals.
