Kylie Burdge

Professional Highlights
Dr. Kylie M. Burdge, PhD, received her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Brigham Young University. Her dissertation, “Transcending the Malaise of Psychology by Being for the Other: An Alternative View for Psychotherapy,” explored how an other-focused approach to therapy provides the moral and relational depth often missing in contemporary models, which she believes helps to invite the kind of change people genuinely seek in therapy. She continues to be engaged in scholarly work exploring new paradigms for therapeutic practice, the integration of faith and mental health, and the philosophical foundations underlying contemporary psychology. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Baylor University Counseling Center and brings additional clinical experience from BYU’s Counseling and Psychological Services and a private rural practice in Washington state, where she worked with both military and civilian populations.
Specialties
Dr. Burdge believes that nearly every presenting concern is ultimately a relational one: how we relate to others, how we understand ourselves, how we see the world, and how those patterns are shaped by past experiences and can be challenged in the present. As such, she approaches therapy as a relational and ethical process. Her style is warm, direct, and present. She seeks to speak truth in love and maintain respect for each patient’s agency. Since she believes healing often comes through experiences within the therapeutic relationship itself, she brings her whole self into the room, including humor, transparency, and emotional responsiveness, and hopes her presence invites patients to do the same.
She draws from a strong relational philosophical foundation while integrating interpersonal process work with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and a Strengths- and Meaning-Focused Approach that fosters patient growth, clarity, and resilience. Across all contexts, her goal is to create a space where patients feel safe enough to explore what’s hard and challenged enough to grow into more grounded, connected, and intentional versions of themselves.
