Dr. Lisa Takara completed her pre-doctoral internship at Northern Illinois University. She received her PhD in Counseling Psychology from BYU. She is originally from Okinawa, Japan, and is also a licensed psychologist in Japan.
Specialties
Dr. Takara has an affirming client-centered approach, respecting and honoring the experiences of those she meets. She incorporates integrated techniques drawn from Emotion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, and mindfulness to help clients gain needed skills to cope with their challenges. She recognizes clients’ multicultural identities and backgrounds, including race, ethnicity, social background, sexual orientation, and religious/spiritual values.
She primarily works with adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, sexual concerns, trauma, and diversity-related struggles. She also finds special meaning in working with women who are going through life transitions and post-partum depression. Lisa is certified in EMDR.
Lisa only does therapy remotely via telehealth.
