
Rachel Chapman, PhD

Professional Highlights
Dr. Chapman received her PhD in Counseling Psychology from BYU. Her dissertation and doctoral research focused on how mental health providers can best serve Native Hawaiians who identify as third gender, or māhū. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Arkansas and has also worked at BYU-Hawaii and BYU in their respective counseling centers. Prior to studying psychology, Dr. Chapman received her MSW from the University of Oklahoma and worked as a clinical social worker in rural Oklahoma.
Specialties
Rachel is committed to creating a therapeutic space that is affirming, inclusive, and respectful of clients from all backgrounds and identities. She values cultural humility and recognizes the importance of understanding each client’s unique lived experiences, including the ways culture, race, gender identity, sexuality, religion, disability, and socioeconomic factors may shape mental health and relationships.
Additionally, Rachel’s affirming approach to therapy focuses on meeting clients where they are. She works through a compassion-focused lens and strives to create a safe, warm environment for clients. Her interpersonal and relational approach to treatment helps establish a collaborative therapeutic experience that enables clients to live more empathetic and empowered lives.
Rachel has a special interest in helping LGBTQ+ clients and clients experiencing faith difficulties. She works with adults primarily experiencing anxiety, depression, sexual concerns, women’s issues, and diversity-related concerns.
