Mental Illness Awareness Week

Our therapists in Spanish Fork add our awareness and recognition of this nationally observed week in October. The first full week of October in the United States is Mental Illness Awareness Week. This is a time dedicated to raising awareness and combating the stigma that is currently and historically associated with mental illness.
What’s the big deal you may ask? Why does the nation dedicate a whole week to raising awareness? Well, according to the World Health Organization, mental health disorders affect one in four people worldwide, making them among the leading causes of disability and illness. Educating the nation on the prevalence, symptoms of, and treatment for mental illness can aid in early detection and intervention, which can significantly improve mental health outcomes.
By encouraging open conversations about mental health, you can help break down the stigma that mental health is a sign of weakness. This will allow individuals to seek support and healing without fear of judgment. As we learn more about mental health we develop greater empathy and understanding for others and ourselves who may be dealing with these challenges.
This week-long event provides a platform to engage in open, honest conversations about mental health. It provides resources to help us understand this prevalent challenge our nation faces, and encourages individuals to seek support and treatment when needed. Therapy can be a tremendous transformative tool in your mental health journey. Please call Alliance Psychology at 801-224-2313 and one of our therapists in Spanish Fork will be eager to assist you.
