“SMART” New Years Goals

New Year, New Me….right? Everyone is talking about their New Years Resolutions and goals, including our therapists in Spanish Fork. And we might have some tips to make your goals some of the best yet, or at least the ‘smartest’.
SMART goals are a goal-setting method that help you better achieve success by breaking down objectives into smaller, more manageable parts. They are designed in such a way to foster clear and focused understanding of what constitutes expected levels of performance and success. Remember a goal in general is intended to focus attention and resources on what is most important so that you can be successful in achieving your priorities.
SMART stands for:
- Specific: Clearly define what you want to achieve and who will be involved. What will be accomplished and what actions will you take?
- Measurable: Determine how you will measure your progress and know when you’ve reached your goal. What data will measure the goal and how much will you need to determine success?
- Achievable: Ensure your goal is realistic and within your capabilities. Do you have the necessary skills and resources?
- Relevant: Make sure your goal aligns with your overall objectives and current tasks. Determine why the result is important to you.
- Time-bound: Set a deadline for completion, and know ahead of time if you will grant yourself extensions.
