Learning Disability Testing

Learning disability testing helps high school and college students determine whether their academic challenges are related to a specific learning disorder. Many students work hard yet still struggle with reading, writing, or math, affecting grades, confidence, and future opportunities.

At Alliance Psychology, our clinical mental health counselors provide comprehensive, in-person evaluations for ages 16+ in Orem and Spanish Fork, giving you clear answers and documentation for school, college, or workplace accommodations.

What is Learning Disability Testing?

Everyone struggles in school from time to time, but when problems are persistent, disproportionate to effort, and interfere with daily functioning, they may be signs of a learning disorder.

Learning disability testing evaluates for conditions defined in the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition).

  • Specific Learning Disorder with Impairment in Reading
    (commonly associated with dyslexia)
  • Specific Learning Disorder with Impairment in Written Expression
    (sometimes called dysgraphia)
  • Specific Learning Disorder with Impairment in Mathematics
    (sometimes called dyscalculia)

At Alliance Psychology, our assessments are comprehensive, evidence-based, and guided by American Psychiatric Association (APA) best practices. By combining standardized tools, clinical expertise, and input from families and schools, we deliver accurate and reliable results that make a real difference.

Who Benefits from Learning Disability Testing

Learning disability testing is designed for students and young adults who need clarity about their learning challenges and a path to access support.

High School Students (ages 16+): For teens whose difficulties with reading, writing, math, or focus are affecting grades and confidence.

College Students: Hidden learning difficulties that emerge under heavier academic demands, such as problems with time management, note-taking, or exams.

Young Adults Entering the Workforce: Documentation for ADA accommodations, ensuring they can perform at their best in professional settings.

  • Attention & Executive Function Measures: Assesses focus, organization, planning, and self-regulation, which often affect school performance
  • Learning History Review: Considers past records, such as report cards, standardized test results, or prior evaluations, to track learning patterns over time

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of learning disabilities do you test for?

We evaluate for specific learning disorders, including reading (dyslexia), written expression (dysgraphia), and mathematics (dyscalculia). Testing also examines related areas like memory, processing speed, and executive function to provide a complete picture.

Is testing only available in person?

Yes. To ensure accuracy, all standardized assessments are conducted in person at our Orem or Spanish Fork offices. Feedback sessions can be completed in person or online, depending on your preference.

How long does the process take?

Most evaluations include an intake interview, two in-person testing sessions, and a separate feedback session. From start to finish, the process typically may take a few days, depending on scheduling and report preparation. We commit to completing the evaluation within two weeks of the client finishing the testing.

Can results be used for SAT/ACT or college accommodations?

Yes. Our comprehensive reports are accepted by testing boards and colleges to support requests for extra time, note-taking assistance, or other accommodations.

Will I receive a written report?
